This fall, as I celebrate three years living with stage IV (aka metastatic) breast cancer, I will be pulling on my boots again for MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Third Annual Boot Walk to End Cancer to support MD Anderson’s bold mission to eliminate cancer. Funds raised from this event are pivotal in fueling MD Anderson’s research engine to #EndCancer.
To mark three years of survivorship, I’ve set a lofty goal of raising $20,000 for MD Anderson’s Advanced Breast Cancer Program, a multi-departmental effort designed to increase the median survival time for patients with advanced breast cancer from 3 years to 10 years, improve the quality of life of patients battling advanced breast cancer, and find a cure for stage IV breast cancer.
Although great strides have been made, the fight to end cancer is far from won. Tremendous need remains in expediting essential, transformational research to stop cancer from taking the lives of our loved ones, family and friends. I am optimistic, however, that MD Anderson will continue lead the charge in making cancer history. Discoveries at MD Anderson lead to new treatment standards throughout the world, giving all those touched by cancer the best chance for survival. MD Anderson really is the place for ending cancer.
Help me commemorate three years of living with and thriving despite cancer by supporting me on the 2018 Boot Walk. Your gift will enable the Advanced Breast Cancer Program to move quickly in the fight against breast cancer, pursue new ideas, develop new tests and treatments, and offer hope to patients like me.
